Scott Elliott is the CEO of Piedmont Media and the publisher of two Virginia newspapers, the Fauquier Times and the Prince William Times. He spent the bulk of his reporting career working as a newspaper journalist in Ohio and Indiana, mostly focused on writing about education policy. Along the way he became a pioneer in online and nonprofit journalism. In 2005 he launched Get on the Bus, one of the nation’s earliest blogs written by a newspaper reporter. In 2013, he was the founding bureau chief for Chalkbeat Indiana, a local nonprofit education news site connected to a national network that is now in 12 cities. He’s won numerous national, state and regional awards for his journalism, including a National Headliner Award for education reporting. He served for four years as president of the national Education Writers Association and was a Knight-Wallace journalism fellow at the University of Michigan.
